sometimes i find myself almost overwhelmed by the things around me.
the constant and hurried shuffling of humans day by day
the news that blares its headlines across the screen
shouting in silent screams the things that should scare me
another bomb attack or politicians making choices
and spending money that i gave them.
all of this is happening and more.
and someone mentions “these days are crazy”.
and then i think, ‘what about these days’?
these days people are angry
people are hurting. people are scared. people are lonely
these days people are frantic in the streets. burning buildings down
these days people are shooting, attacking, stabbing, looting
jobs are scarce. plague is rampant. people are dying.
but these days don’t mean as much as this day does.
this day i woke up in a warm home and i was breathing
this day i ate a good meal and cherished it
this day all the bills are paid
this day i did my best at the job i enjoy
this day i came home to my beautiful wife and son
this day i hugged my family and called a friend
this day i loved all i could love. gave all i could give.
these days are bad no doubt, but this day was really, really good.
To the detached,
