I ordered a glass of lemonade
These stands are the place to be
Cold drink, sitting in the shade.
And it feels like America to me.

I ordered spicy rice with chicken
Saps Thai is the place to be
All I hear are Thai men speaking
And it sounds like America to me.

I ordered a cheesy quesadilla
El Charros is the place to be
On Sundays, that’s where I’ll see ya
And it looks like America to me.

I ordered Barbecue today
Snider’s is the place to be.
From Texas or Memphis in May
It tastes like America to me.

All of these different people
From here or across the sea
Synagogue or ivory steeple,
That’s what America is to me.
