More Than Just A Man

A pastor is more than just a man
Whom we permit to stand
Behind a pulpit every week
And raise his voice to speak

He’s more than just a person
To preach a thirty minute sermon
And give a grandiose display
Weekends and on Wednesday

A pastor is more than just a man
With whom we clasp a hand
As we walk out the door
And then don’t think of anymore

No, he’s more than just a man.

He’d kneel by a hospital bed
As those dark valleys you tread
He would drive a hundred miles
Or gladly walk these aisles
To pray for each one of you
And pray you safely through

He’s a friend when you’re alone
And you’re struggling on your own

He’s a fighter when the chips are down
And evil forces are gaining ground
When the Lion and the Bear
Approach us unaware
Then the Shepherd with the sling
Will Send them both retreating
He’ll lead our souls to refreshing water
And to the shade as days get hotter
And Reach for lambs out on a ledge
Then Lead them back to safety’s hedge

No, a Pastor is more than just a man.
He’s a God-called man.
And more than that, He’s anointed by God to shepherd the flock.

to those called and anointed, and my pastor especially,
