He is the King

When I look at Him, all I see is a boy
Covered in dirt and gripping a toy
Tattered clothes, a father not his own
A mother young, but striving so
To make this offset house a home.
As I look at Him, what I don’t know

Is He’s the King, wrapped in flesh.
He’s dirty now and quite a mess,
But He came to live like that for me
Embracing the tatters of mortality.
He’s Royalty, and not just the earthly kind
Right now He’s a boy, but one day we’ll find
This poor, common boy like me
Is the King.

When I look at Him, all I see is a man
Backside to a cross, nails in His hands.
This has happened a thousand times before,
But It’s not so common for them to forgive
As they hang there struggling to live.
As I watch, I find out all the more

That He’s the King, wrapped in flesh.
He’s bloody now and quite a mess,
But He’s hanging there for me.
And though it seems all hope is lost
He’s paying Redemption’s cost,
Then He Who died to set men free
Is crowned with immortality
Because He is the King.
