Rock Hunting

I like to hunt for rocks.

Yeah, you read that right. I like to hunt for rocks.
Not just any rocks. They have to be solid, heavy, and massive.

I’m not a fan of the concrete landscaping blocks found at the local Lowe’s. I dislike them so much that, on a scale of “Love or Hate,” the needle is past the middle and inching ever closer to the “hate” side.

The grey or maroon colors make me want to puke. I’m not trying to be harsh! I know a lot of people use them. All of these posts are my personal and somewhat exaggerated opinions. I mean no offense to anyone who utilizes such blocks.

Also, please understand that I don’t believe what I do looks better than what anyone does. What I know is; if I came home and saw those concrete blocks around my landscaping, then I’d die.

But those blocks are cheap and readily available at your local lumberyard! If someone doesn’t have the time or money to do something else with their landscaping, they have to do what they can!

I’ve found a cheaper way to do landscaping. And to me, it’s way more beautiful! I can understand if others don’t agree, though.

It’s more time-consuming and harder to do, but it is worth it in the long run.

The idea hit me like a ton of rocks one day while traveling the dirt roads around our house. I looked over and saw big rocks lying in the ditch. So I pulled over and put them in the back of our SUV. I took them home and went back for more.

Granted, I was sore and worn out by the end of the day. Those rocks were not pebbles; they were small boulders.

Over the next month, I made several trips to this particular place beside the dirt road. Then I meandered along even more dirt roads and found pockets of national treasures in those ditches.

I picked up enough small boulders to line the flower bed in front of our porch, the flower bed I created around the ugly gray box in the corner of our yard, and enough to line the emerald green arborvitaes on one side of our backyard.

Oh, and I built a little fire pit. It’s several rocks stacked on top of each other in a circle. But it works very well!

If you want to add depth and a different perspective to your landscaping, there are rocks galore for a spectacularly low price of $0.00.

to those who like a good deal,
– Caleb
