A wise man once said, “How a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” I rephrased it a little.
If you disagree with that statement, you’ll have to take it up with God.
But this causes me to ask, “What are we thinking?”
Or better yet, “Which thoughts are the most prevalent in our minds?”
Another wise man once wrote, “Whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, pure, just, lovely — if it’s virtuous or praiseworthy — think on these things.”
“That’s a little difficult to do, Caleb.”
I know, I know.
Did someone cut you off in traffic this morning? Forget about it — after you write down their license plate number and call the police. Or lean on the horn for a count of ten. Or get beside them in traffic and give them the death glare. Or spit curses in their direction.
I know that it’s possible to change the course of one’s thought process. I do it daily. You can choose what you think.
These men weren’t telling us to stay aloof, with our heads in the clouds.
The point is, it isn’t doing any good to worry about it. Don’t let it eat at your soul.
“Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.”
And if someone does you wrong intentionally, the best thing you can do for yourself is to forgive them. Forgiveness frees you. Forgiveness gives your mind wings to fly in whatever direction it desires.
Are there injustices that happen almost daily? Sure.
I’m not saying that you should be someone’s patsy, but constantly fretting over an issue isn’t doing you any good.
One of those wise men also wrote, “If you see your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he’s thirsty, give him something to drink.”
If you can do that, you are the most liberated person on the planet.
What are we thinking about today?
to those who are truly free,
– Caleb
