This may sound redundant. But something happened that I need to share.
Every evening, we give testimonies and prayer requests, then we pray as a family.
We all say something we’re thankful for, which usually includes each other. Son #1 has the main part of his testimony memorized, “I’m thankful for the Lord, that He is good, and His love endures forever.”
Son #2 gave an extensive testimony tonight. “Da bah apple da bah. Bah dah, da dee dah oh meh.” He’s one and a half, folks. We’ll understand him better, by and by. Lord willing.
Son #1 changes his prayer requests frequently. They range from “everyone who is awake” to “the apple that fell on the ground in Newfoundland.”
Tonight, he requested prayer for everyone. In the whole wide world. A tall order. Thankfully, we don’t know all the names. Charity or I will take turns praying over the requests.
But tonight, Son #2 wanted to pray. He came over and sat with me in the recliner. He bowed his head and started praying. I tried to take over, but he showed me the palm of his hand and told me no.
“Jeh suh (Jesus), apple da ba bah da ote da ba da bah.” On and on he went. I tried to cut in, but he held up his hand.
For two minutes without stopping, Son #2 prayed.
Once again, we didn’t understand a word of it. But like I said last week, Jesus did.
And as I listened, I felt the presence of the Lord. There was reverence and holy stillness as our one-year-old prayed. I believe all of heaven paused to hear his heartfelt prayer.
I feel as if the Lord reminded me, once again, that we don’t have to use fancy words in the correct order or even speak plainly. We don’t have to conjure up a pretense of what He might want to hear or what He will respond to.
He wants us to communicate with Him however we can.
He hears. He knows. He comes down to listen to even the most jumbled-up words if we mean them sincerely — with the whole heart.
I truly believe that He wants to hear from you.
to you,
– Caleb
