I’m thankful. Two years ago today, my wife was going through it. She was expecting and was abnormally sick.
I had the capability of working from home, and because of her pregnancy issues, I asked my leadership if I could do so. They gave the go-ahead, and it was a good thing they did.
Monday, July 19, 2021, was a normal summer day. My wife was giving Son #1 a bath when she started blacking out. She called out to me from the bathroom next to my office where I was working. I notified my boss that I was stepping away for a minute and found her sitting down, rocking from side to side, head in her hands.
By the time I got Son #1 out of the bath, she felt somewhat better. But as I helped her to our bedroom, she began to faint, and her vision went dark. She collapsed on the bed, unable to move. I patted her on the face and hollered her name.
When she recovered and could walk again, I rushed her to the local clinic. But while we waited for her doctor, she suddenly couldn’t breathe and began to pass out again.
Her pupils were dilated, and she was gasping for breath and kept saying, “I can’t breathe!” over and over. I didn’t understand that, though. I could see her breathing and knew the air was going into her lungs and coming back out, but somehow it wasn’t doing any good.
Her breathing kept getting more and more shallow. With her eyes open, she passed out and slumped over to one side, shaking.
Talk about scared. I knelt beside her in the waiting room and started praying while one of the nurses called an ambulance.
Long story short, they transported her to the hospital, but the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong.
I notified our pastor of what was happening when we were en route to the clinic. He sent a text to our church family and asked them to pray.
One of the people he contacted was a ninety-year-old preacher. He told our pastor that as soon as he got the text, he knelt to pray, but a few minutes later, he said the Lord spoke to him and told him she would be all right.
And she was. Whatever had been wrong was gone. The doctors couldn’t find out why that had happened. They did tests and had her hooked up to a monitor for a few days to see if there were any abnormalities.
Nothing.
They were concerned about the baby, too. She was expecting Son #2 at the time. But everything checked out okay.
To this day, we have no idea what happened, but it hasn’t happened since. And we trust God that He knew what the purpose was and allowed it so that it would increase our faith.
I’m thankful today. Thankful that my wife is still here with me, and Son #2 is well and has been bringing so much joy to our lives.
Things could have been different that day. She said she didn’t have her phone and couldn’t think straight or even see to call anyone. If I hadn’t been at home, the doctor said she might not have made it through those three episodes. And with Son #1 in the tub, things could have been different.
But everything turned out well.
And once again, I’m so thankful.
to my precious family,
– Caleb
