I heard a story recently of a young man who took a gun into his school. He pulled it out in the classroom. Thankfully, he didn’t harm anyone that day. He never pulled the trigger, although he intended to.
I don’t know all the details of the story, but the young man went to jail and received the help he needed while incarcerated.
He is now an advocate for troubled teens. His dad was abusive. He, his mom, and his siblings were the recipients of physical and verbal violence.
Not only did the strikes upon his body injure him, but also, the knowledge that his entire family suffered because of only one man inflicted deep impressions upon his mind. And he didn’t know what he could do to stop him.
Eventually, he and his family fled from their abuser and were finally safe.
But the injuries remained. Not the physical injuries. The mental ones.
Then came the day he walked into the school with a weapon.
After receiving his sentence and serving his time, he was released and is not the same boy he once was. And he said one thing he said stood out to me.
He said that no one knew what he was going through — the mental anguish and torment he experienced.
He said he walked into that classroom, fully intending to leave it with the knowledge that people were hurting like he had been. He wanted them to feel the same pain that he had. And he believed this was the only way to get relief from the painful memories that plagued him.
He thought he was all alone.
Little did this teenage boy know that 2,000 years ago, a man on a cross endured mental anguish and physical suffering like he had experienced.
He didn’t know that the man was left alone by His followers to endure cruel mocking and scourgings.
And he never fully realized that the man died and rose again and now is the One Who goes to the Father on our behalf.
I want to tell you this story today because you never know what someone is going through.
It could be that someone who reads this is facing a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in their life.
And they think that no one cares. And no one even knows.
But I know Someone who knows what you go through.
And He truly cares.
Would you ask Him to help you right now?
I truly believe that Jesus is the answer you are looking for.
I promise you, you are not alone.
to someone,
– Caleb
