One of the families who touched my heart this past weekend was Pedro and Mayra. Pedro is the pastor in the church in Poncitlán.
Mayra has an affliction in her body, specifically a hernia in her neck. She prayed earnestly during the services. And for most of the time, she wore a neck brace.
Sunday afternoon, Hermano Pedro motioned me and a few others over to pray for his wife. She knelt on the floor, hands lifted in the air, and cried out to God for healing with many tears.
While praying for her, I recognized the earnest anguish etched across his face. His love for his wife and faith in God were evident as he prayed.
The tears spilled over until no single streaks were flowing down his face — they appeared as one broad expanse with no distinguishing pattern.
She was going through a trial, to put it mildly. And her husband was, too. It was the same storm, but different boats. Hers, bodily affliction. His, the desire to help ease and eradicate whatever ailed her. They were sailing the storm together.
We had prayed for a while when the Lord spoke a verse to my heart from Luke chapter five, the latter part of verse seventeen, “and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” And I recognized the fact that God was present and had taken particular interest in our petition.
The Lord moved mightily in that altar service, and Mayra worshipped and shouted like there was no affliction in her body. I fully believed the Lord was present to heal her.
At some point, she had taken the neck brace off, but I don’t know the details of how she felt afterward. She was all smiles, but with the language barrier, I never found out if she had received healing.
I must say that I’m not into taking numbers. I’m not much for tallying up occurrences such as that to use as scoreboards for selling points. Maybe I’ll change my mind one of these days.
And until I hear any different, I’m going to importunately pray for her complete healing and trust that God can and will do the work.
Whether or not it is evident physically, I do know that the power and presence of the Lord were tangible within the walls of that tiny church in Rancho Nuevo.
And since His timing is perfect, I’ll just keep trusting and believing. And, if you don’t mind, would you help me to pray for Mayra’s healing?
to the faithful in Christ Jesus,
– Caleb
