One thing I know for certain is that God is good.
He is good even when times are not so good. His goodness far outweighs the not-so-good.
God is good even when the people around you aren’t good. He knows, cares, and is always here in our situations. We are so thankful for the goodness of God.
I’m reminded of what Joseph said in the book of Genesis:
Génesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
Whatever you are going through, God has a plan. It may not be pleasant, but it will be profitable for us to endure this hardness.
It may be that God is allowing us to experience certain things so that we may learn or be educated for a future purpose that only He sees coming our way.
Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Hebrews 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
God is making us perfect to do His will. He is working in us to perfect us for a future purpose. And it is all for the glory of Christ.
I like what David wrote in Psalm fifty-two:
Psalm 52:1b… the goodness of God endureth continually.
How can we be upset and fretful when the precious goodness of God surrounds us at all times?
I wrote in our last newsletter that storms often surround us, but the goodness of God is enveloping the storms.
His goodness endures continually. Young’s Literal Translation says that “the kindness of God is all the day.”
This means that the devil CAN NOT find a time when God’s goodness is ever lacking so that he can catch God off guard and will be able to destroy us.
All the day. Continually.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Goodness and mercy are following me. They will continue to follow me until I leave this life. And then the splendors of Heaven await me.
There isn’t any defeat in a Christian’s life. You may FEEL defeated, but the FACT is that you are not.
Isn’t that wonderful? Praise the Lord! That makes me want to shout!
We can rest in the fact that God is good and a God of peace. When the storms of life surround us, we can have peace within our hearts.
Most of the time, when we are in a stormy situation, all we can see is the storm.
I’m thinking about the story of the disciples rowing across the sea in the middle of a storm in Mark chapter six. They encountered a storm.
The Bible says that they were “toiling in rowing.” They encountered a situation that they couldn’t get through. They could not get to the other side of the sea to Bethsaida.
But they still kept trying.
Why? Because Jesus had told them to go.
He told them in verse forty-five to go to the other side of the sea. So they did the best they could.
Verse forty-seven says they were toiling in rowing and Jesus was alone on the land.
But verse forty-eight says that He saw them.
I wonder what they could see? They probably weren’t seeing much of anything except storms, rain, and lightning. But even though they might not have seen much, He saw them. And that’s what’s important.
He saw them toiling in the middle of the stormy sea while they were trying to get to where He told them to go.
God doesn’t deal in what-ifs, so I won’t either.
We won’t even think about “What if they had stopped?” The truth is that they didn’t stop. They kept trying. They kept going.
That is what we should do, my friends. If God has told us to do something, we should do it until He tells us to do something else.
When we encounter troubles and trials, we must keep going on the same course until He comes to speak peace to the situation.
Because He WILL come by to help you.
Yes, He will.
And when He comes by, it is vital to reach out to Him. He will speak peace to you.
You may not be able to see very much around you except the storm. You may not be able to keep rowing much longer. You may not feel like any good is going to come out of this.
But He sees you, knows what you are going through, and will help you in this storm.
You may not see it yet. You may not feel it yet. But don’t give up.
Help is on His way.
And when He gets on the ship, everything will change.
Blessings,
– Caleb
