Going Beyond

I’m not one for making New Year’s Resolutions.

I believe that I should wake up every morning intending to do my best in everything. Sometimes, I don’t do so well. Other times, I do very well.

Some goals don’t get done. Some goals get done, and then some. But at the end of the day, I know I tried my best, and I know I will wake up the next morning with the same goal.

Last year, I did not resolve to write every day. My word of the year was beyond. (I know, having a word of the year is weird, right?)

Well, I went beyond anything I ever thought possible.

Was it life-changing? I don’t know yet.
Was it time-consuming? Yes.
Was it worth it? Yes.

Charity bought me an incredible Christmas gift this year: a spiral-bound book with every post up to December 18, 2023. It was such a surprise. She will add the remaining posts at the end of the year.

As of December 18, I had written over 150,000 words. That doesn’t include all the stories I didn’t post, nor the remaining 13 days of the year.

An average novel is anywhere from 70,000 to 120,000 words. I could have a full-length novel and then some.

This fact may not mean anything to you, but it proves to me that what I never thought was possible for me is now possible. And more than possible.

The secret to doing anything is merely to do it.

You may need time to improve your skills, and it may take a while and much effort, but simply doing something is the best way to finish something.

Keep on going. Don’t stop.

Who knows what we can do if we take another step forward?

to those who keep going,
– Caleb
